about

Spirits of Rhythm is an exploration of the artists who inspire us.

Jazz is alive today. Not as a museum piece to be preserved, but as a living art form, to be explored and experienced. Artie Shaw embodied that exploration. His ears led him toward unorthodox arrangement choices- like adding a harpsichord, or incorporating bebop into his Gramercy Five small group. Always pushing his artistry, he blurred lines of style and era.

That's what we aspire to do on this record. In the spirit of Artie Shaw,
we follow our hearts and ears to a new sound, digging deep for those
moments of shared inspiration. In the midst of bluesy melodies,
angular lines, the smooth style of big band swing and the fire of gypsy jazz, the spirits of rhythm come alive.

With each swing of Moonshine, you’ll taste notes of Nat King Cole’s classy and hip vocals and Chet Baker’s lyrical phrasing amidst the acoustic fire of Django’s gypsy jazz and the slow burn of Count Basie’s laidback groove. ... more
