about

Spirits of Rhythm is an exploration of the artists who inspire us.

Jazz is alive today. Not as a museum piece to be preserved, but as a living art form, to be explored and experienced. In a time of incredible racism, Benny Goodman was one of the few white bandleaders to have an integrated band. Unlike some of his contemporaries with equal commercial success, he never lost his connection with the groove. And alongside his incredible technical prowess, he had a melodic sense and a rhythmic feel that truly earned him the title, “King of Swing.”

Benny had his famous orchestra, but he also had a signature sound in his small groups. Warm and live, you can feel the joy in the room from these looser, more relaxed sessions. That’s how we like to operate- enough rehearsal and arrangement to feel tight like a big band, but with the space for play and improvisation that only a small group can achieve. We revamped a few of the tunes Benny was best known for, and threw in a couple deep cuts for good measure.

Moonshine Rhythm Club Nashville, Tennessee

Moonshine Rhythm Club breathes new life into old-school swing and jazz with original tunes and arrangements that make this vintage music sound like it was written this morning. With each swing of Moonshine, you’ll taste notes of Nat King Cole’s classy and hip vocals and Chet Baker’s lyrical phrasing amidst the acoustic fire of Django’s gypsy jazz and the slow burn of Count Basie’s laidback groove. ... more
